It’s my honor to tell you about myself. I grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, where I lived for 18 years. When I was old enough to make my own decision, I moved across the Mississippi river to Wisconsin. I attended the University Of Wisconsin, Platteville, where I earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Spanish. Those were some of the best four years of my life. I was active in my sorority, Theta Phi Alpha, and a member of two honor societies. I put myself through college by waiting tables at a local restaurant. It was hard work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
In 1989 I moved to Westfield, Massachusetts to spend my last semester attending Westfield State College as a Domestic Exchange Student. What an awesome experience that was! It was a bit of a culture shock moving from a place where I said hello to everyone I passed on the street. But the life lessons I learned were priceless. Spending each weekend traveling the area, including frequent trips to Montreal, was amazing. I got to know New England like the back of my hand.
Coincidentally, my first job out of college, in 1989, was an Account Manager for a company on the Internet. It was a resume matching service similar to modern-day Monster.com. Companies paid upwards of $50,000 for a computer, modem and access to our database. It was a great idea, but alas, it was way before it’s time.
In March of 1990, I made the best decision of my life and followed my parents to Colorado. Colorado has been such a blessing. I met my husband, Marv, here. We got married in 1992 and our son, Joshua, was born 10 months later! No math needed! 😉
I love spending time with my family hiking, camping, playing golf, playing board games, skiing and more. I also enjoy health and fitness. My favorite fitness activities are running and Zumba.
After seven years in corporate management, I decided I needed a change. As you know I founded my Internet business in 1997. There wasn’t a lot of competition back then. I was selling lots of different things. But in 1999, I decided to focus on jewelry. I started pr69yi.com as a division of QMB. When I began offering engraving services, sales really took off. So I invested in some engraving machines and EngravingShop.com went live in 2003. Although I loved engraving, I was a bit overwhelmed with everything an engraving business requires, so I sold EngravingShop.com in 2007. As time passed, the bulk of my jewelry sales became Chatham stones set into custom jewelry. So in 2009, OurCustomWeddingRings.com was born.
In February 2006, I earned my Graduate Gemologist Diploma from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). I absolutely love gemology and enjoy sharing what I know. My favorite part of my job is working one-on-one with clients. Don’t feel bad if you keep me on the phone for an hour. I’ll enjoy it! I love talking to and learning about people.
I look forward to helping you on your next project. Thank you for considering OurCustomWeddingRings.com
President, QMB, Inc., GIA Graduate Gemologist
In 2014 Michelle went to Madagascar to learn about the geology and mineralogy of the country. She was excited to visit some of the mining localities she learned about in her studies to be a Graduate Gemologist. However, it wasn't the sparkly colorful gems that caught her eye. Rather, it was the children...the little gems of Madagascar. Michelle founded in 2015. She visits Madagascar for about two months each year doing humanitarian projects, including clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
